Have any of you noticed that your speedometer is fast by about 5mph with the correct size tires on the car? Drivers in California can't check their speedometers because California hasn't ever put up mileage markers. Another reason to travel to Las Vegas. But a tachymeter watch can get you a good estimate between mile posts. In my 93 cse, the speedometer is almost accurate at 80mph, and presumably slow above that. (All guages have one point where they are dead on, the rest of the time they are +- some percentage. I think there is a % estimate on the speedometer near the odometer). Below 80 it is fast - 65 is 60, 50 is 45, etc. This gap decreases from about 70 up to 80mph. This has been the case with all of my 9ks (87,91,93)with manual transmission. This affects everything on the readouts. The distance to destination can be as much as 10 miles short. The average speed might be wrong also. As to actual mileage, the readout is just for the moment; I love to fill the tank, get up to speed and have the distance estimate be around 850 miles on the tank. But more important, the speedometer error could indicate that there are more miles on the car than shown on the odometer.
