You may have a leak or tear in some of the rubber plumbing hardware that runs from the turbo to your intake manifold. These pieces are only pressurized during episodes of boost. I had a similar problem in my '91 9kt that took me a long time to diagnose. The car would acheive regular boost levels, then drop down, and make a rough, sputtering sound as the boost was being released through the leak. A tear of this nature in the rubber plumbing from the turbo can be hard to find, as the leak won't occur until it is under boost; therefor, you won't hear or see it as the car idles. I removed the rubber elbow that connects to the throttle body and found a 1/2 tear on the bottom. From what I understand, this is a common piece to fail as the car ages.
