You could probably score a used WRX in the 15-20k price range that you are looking for. They seem to be pretty reliable cars, and obviously fun to drive. Plus the AWD. I don't know the fun to drive factor of the RS version of the Impreza, as it is a non-turbo (boooo).

Perhaps a used Maxima? They scoot and are pretty reliable also, but not all that gas friendly.

Hope your search brings you back to a 9000...but that's just my $.02.
