teeth on the post. It should pull out if you use a screwdriver to pop it up and work it out gently. But I could be wrong. As for your CC...
There are a lot of posts on this. Most likely you have an issue with one of switches. There are 2, 1 for the clutch pedal and 1 for the brake. Sometimes they die, other times they just stick. They are very simple plunge switches. They are mounted on a bracket that sometimes moves so that the switches no loger make contact as they need to for Cruise to engage. Before you do anything else, just see if you can pivot the bracket a tad closer to the pedals. You'll be able to see how the pedal shafts engage the buttons on the switches. It will be obvious when you look at it.
Also be sure you check the fuse for CC. It could just be dead.
