Lots of brass dust?
I'm then willing to bet my hat that what is happening is the vent ring has worn through or a dangling filing has jammed the control disk. This is actually protecting your solenoid wires for the moment because the control disk isn't moving around yet. In either case - this will probably prove to be fatal to the greater BPC system if left unattended and plugged in.
MBC+A is a very exciting advance in manual boost controllers in that it protects from overshoots and works better in different temperatures. I think I've seen them advertised for about $75 somewhere and I think 'Jeff in Atl.' is making some too. I have been waiting to hear from him as regards a good cut in spot for a vacuum line he seems to want to know about on Trionic actually.
What it will do is give you set boost in all forward gears (no low gear/cruise base boost stepping) and will allow you to dial up the boost a little more than stock. The downside is that it removes some of the protection as regards the engine management system. However, I think the stock Trionic system will cut fuel/ignition on knock AND/OR over pressure in the manifold.
With an MBC+A - you can go to full boost regardless of air intake or engine temperature. It will start throwing 'adaptation' CEL errors until you get it dialled in so it is boosting within acceptable ranges.
To properly mount one - you want to remove the BPC from the air lines entirely and put the car on a dyno to dial it in with a fuel/air sensor in place with a hot engine. You can set it up just doing runs up highway on ramps with several tries - but you have to run it to fuel cut (knock - over pressure in the intake manifold) - then work back.
Pressure will vary a bit with ambient temperature (less so with MBC+A than simple MBC). You will want to repeat set-up in the Spring and Fall to allow for different ambient temps.
A lot of people really like MBC+A - so do I actually. However, I'm not the only one driving our car and there are those here who claim it works the turbo charger bearings and seals more than is wise.
I don't comment on that as I just don't know - there have been very heated debates about it.
Anyway - back to work for me. Nice spending lunch with you.
