per our conversation last week with regard to pre-detonation, I changed the plugs to the the 7 series NGK's you recommended and went to a higher octane fuel, and got rid of the problem!!! The car is running with a night and day difference. Mucho Gracias for you help.
After checking the old spark plugs with a microscope I noticed some dirt (air filtration problem?) and that the engine is running hot. I had the coolant flushed and changed this past weekend. Should I hold off on tinkering more with it or go ahead with the 82C thermostat and thermoswitch anyway? Also, could turbo over-boost have an effect on the hot running engine? (although the turbo Guage on the instrument cluster looks like its operating fine)
