This will create a stir but I would recommend a good DIno oil with and change every 4000 miles. Many years ago when I bought my first 900 from one of the first Saab dealers outside of Connecticut he told me that when Saab was first sold in the US the only American oil they recommended was Wolfshead. This may be an urban legend but I have used nothing else ever since. Wolfshead was at that time made from Pennsylvania crude which has a waxey base rather than an asphalt base. PA crude is dark green when it comes out of the ground rather than black. Since Wolfshead has been bought by Pennsoil which in turn has been bought by something else, God knows where it comes from these days. I still use it as a matter of ritualistic behavior and I have never had any oil related problems or noticable consumption with the six Saabs in our family (two with well over 250,000 miles when they went to the Saab burial ground). Synthetic oils were developed for turbine jet engines. They may be great for the turbo but I am told that they have poor heat capacity and thereby actually increase the wear on reciprocating engines because they do not carry away heat as well from critical parts (rings, bearings, and such). I stick with Wolfshead 10W30 and 4000 mile oil changes in both our current 9000 and two 9-5s.
I know I have lit a fuse here. I anticipate the fireworks.
