I'm installing a new radiator and cooling fan on a '97 CSE [w/ 183,000 mi] . The part I rec'd from eEuroparts, 4396248, has a Bosch motor [p/n 0 130 303 226 058] with a single harness: a black wire and a green wire going to a single plug. Here's the problem: it looks to me like it's only a one speed fan.
The CSE (like my Aero of the same year) has the green wire going from the motor to a resistor, then from the resistor (in the fan shroud) out to one of two plugs, the other plug consists of a single white wire from the resistor.
1. Assuming it's a one speed fan, is it going to draw too much current and either pop the 30 amp fuse or overstress the high speed relay? (this seems to be a recurring 'maybe' comment on the 9k BB archives, but has it actually happened to anyone?)
2. Should I splice the green wire into the existing resistor and wires, to make it 'identical'?
3. What's the correct ohmmeter reading for the resistor [if I go this route, I guess I should check it before wiring it into a brand new motor].
4. Is there a different fan assy/motor that I should be using instead?
Dean did say there were a couple of superseded part numbers on this item, but I'm hesitating before I finish installing this (while, of course, the garage floor is covered with parts).
Thanks.
