without removing the head and sump. Just pay attention to remove any old sealant trace before reassembling. Align the marks on camshaft sprockets with the one on the harmonic balancer and (once removed the timing cover) note the alignment of balance shaft sprockets and chain for reassembly. It's not just an ordinary maintenance job but easy to undertake for DIYers too (like me).(approx time 2 days quietly)
PAy attention not to stretch a lot the head gasket during the reassembly.
ALSO take a look at QUASI' site: I've found it very easy and helpful (better than Haynes)
