Well, looks like your are definetely up for Saab and did your homework.
Don't lock yourself on Aero only. As it was suggested here, you might be better off with good CSE or CS model and for less then $1000 make it faster then Aero (and cheaper for your auto insurance).
Now I have some thoughts about your "homework". Please, note, it's just my personal opinion:
Heater core-a must or you are looking $1000+ job
Motor Mounts- a plus, if not-$345 in parts plus 2-3 hours of labor. (Lower mount on my 207K car still original and in good health (knock on wood for me!)
DI Cassette-a plus, but you never know; get used one for $100 and keep it in the trunk.
Air Conditioning-a must (a plus for me). Note that sometimes it shuts off after car warmed up.
Blower motor-usually done with heater core job.
Clutch-average life-120-130k, some go up to 200K ($1500-$2000 job)
Crankshaft pulley-best bet-renew it all if there is no recent record about it-belt+3 pulleys-$200 parts+1-2 hr of labor and you are good to go for a long time!
Head gasket-hard to say-mine is still original, one poster here made it to 325k, some don't make it over 100k.
The lesser details:
Type of spark plugs -put new ones regardless-$6+air/fuel filter-$40
Type of transmission fluid-check fluid level, if color is OK-let it go.
Refill the cooling system/flush annually-renew some hoses, flush it, put new thermostat-around $100- I would do it regardless of any records.
How often the CV joints were replaced-make sure there are not cracked when buying a car, otherwise ask to drop a price for couple hundred bucks.
Replacement the thermostat (Genuine Saab)-see above
Replacement the accessory drive (serpentine) belt-see above
Replacement the tensioner and idler pulleys-see above.
Hope that helps and good luck with your "hunting"!
Victor
Happy owner of 95 Aero 207K with dream to be able to carry 300k sticker on the bumper.
