Long story short (or long). Recently blew my turbo (210K stock miles) Brand new turbo installed by a reputable shop, now after having the car back 2-3 weeks it has developed a very odd idle. Today I drove it in the morning, came home, changed the oil and pulled the battery terminal (it was corroded to crap and not getting a good connection) I cleaned up the terminal and the connection with the wiring. Hook everything back up, fire it up to check for oil leaks, then shut it down.
Hours later I go out start it up, I notice it takes longer to crank, then fires. It idles fine for maybe a minute, I rev it to back out, and all of a sudden the idle goes nuts. It will go from 1000 to 1500 or 2000 then drop back down and repeat. And when I rev the motor and release the pedal it holds the rpm and then drops at a slower rate than normal.
I checked briefly for leaks, didn't find anything. I had to leave for a wedding so we left my car and took the GF's car.
The weirdest part of the whole thing: I have had a stage 4 ecu sitting in a box waiting for my car to be fixed, I put it in last weekend, started the car and had the same exact issues. I tried unhooking the battery, without success it still did the same thing. When I swapped the stock ecu back in it ran fine. I drove it all week, no issues at all. It actually runs better than I ever remember after getting a new turbo.
I won't be at home until sunday. But I'm right by a huge junkyard so I'm planning to go and pull some parts that I suspect may be the problem. IAC valve, TPS sensor, MAP sensor, o2 sensor (or I'll get a universal one).
What else could this be? I don't think anything is loose due to the new turbo the car ran great and saw 17-18psi on a number of occasions without missing a beat.
Mods list: 3" turbo back exhaust, K&N in place of stock airbox (stage 4 soon I hope)
TIA guys
Matt
