Kinks to work out -vaccuum leak Posted by Michael [Email] (#1365) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Michael) on Sun, 13 Nov 2005 13:54:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
96' 9000CS 127k miles
Just replaced:
-Water Pump + radiator upper and lower hoses
-Thermostat
-Plugs (gapped a little over .9)
-Vaccuum Hoses (the small 5/16" or so hoses)
Issues:
1. I hear a vaccuum leak from somewhere. Its not from the small vaccuum lines. Sounds like its around the throttle body somewhere or to the left of it. Very hard to pinpoint, but its pretty noisy when the car starts from cold. I checked everything. Everything is tight and clammped. I also tried a 'Propane' test. And nothing at all!!! I'm wondering if its a head gasket leak? And I say that because after she warms up (say 10 minutes), the vaccuum noise gets quieter. My thoughts is that the heat is sealing up any voids. Any other way to check for a vaccuum leak??
By the way idle is at around 900... seems good, but has some very slight fluctuation (again from what I believe the vaccuum leak).
2. What I believe to be a result of the vaccuum leak is some vibration from the tensioner pulley. After she warms up though it reduces vibration. But still vibrates a bit on and off, sporadic. I had the belt off and examined the tensioner pulley (I think the piston could use replacing, looks original). But again I dont think thats the source of the problem.
3. On the dash board, theres a digital temperature indicator. Is that outside temp or some other temperature? While the car was idiling for about 10 minutes that temperature # shot up to the high 90's. The cooling fan was running as it always has been. When I moved the car and took her for a short drive, she started to go down in temp. However, when I stopped, she started to go back up again. Just need some claification on the # and if I should be concerned about anything?
