Joe-
Did you get this resolved? I may have the same type of problem. I have an automatic 98 cse. If I am on the freeway and in 4th and I try to punch it to try to get around someone the car will delay for about a second and then jerk down into 3rd. This problem only arises when I need to pass someone going from 4th to 3rd. If I go easy on the accelerator, this problem will never surface. I feel like it is a transmission problem because if I punch it from a stop sign I won't have this problem in the first 3 gears. It only happens when I am travelling at least 55mph. I tried adjusting the kickdown cable to no avail. I was going to take a look at the accumulator spring A this weekend.
