You'll probably enjoy parts of it as you go. It's a lot of work but very interesting. Some tips:
1. Get a bunch of containers with lids to put bolts and small parts in, and label them. Also get a spiral notebook and draw what things look like before you remove them, taking notes as you go. This sounds like a waste of time, but if more than a few days pass between disassembly and assembly, you'll find yourself consulting your notes. I used masking tape to label things.
2. Agree about a helper to lift the cyl head. You want to keep the new gasket dent-free.
3. Don't think about honing the cylinder walls. I read a post here that recommended it, and now, well, I have a new engine in that car.
4. When you initially remove the cyl head, have something to put over the tops of the cylinders. Typically, you'll have piston #1 at TDC, so you can't stuff a rag in cyl 1 or cyl 4, but cover it up with some plastic or something.
5. Consider having your valve cover powder coated while it's out, if you have some spare cash. It'll look great. Some of the site sponsors do that. One of them is not Swedish Dynamics, however. Their web site might gives that impression, because of their photos.
6. I didn't pull my radiator out when I did the job, but not that I had to do it to replace the radiator itself, I found out it's really easy. It'll give you more room, and you won't stand the chance of denting it.
7. Get your alternator rebuilt (new bearings and voltage regulator) while it's out.
best of luck
