maybe you shouldn't have told us it was really you...
However, I find the same thing happening to me sometimes, even after filling up with Shell Optimax which is supposed to be as good (and as expensive) as you can get. And oddly, one time I just had to fill up at a station with a name I'd normally avoid like the plague, and put in their highest octane fuel, and the gauge whizzed round to the red and stayed there - on a hot summer's day when I'd expect it to be pegged back.
My standard 200bhp turbo certainly reacts to fuel quality. I would indeed suspect this quality varies according to storage conditions - or maybe someone starts putting the wrong fuel in the wrong tank and realises the mistake halfway through. I think all you can do is try the same station again, a few weeks later, and see if the same thing happens.
The other month I put petrol into the tank of my diesel van, but that's another expensive story...
