Spent the good part of the day replacing the turbo charger. I have two spare turbo chargers in the garage and two more bad ones I have no time to rebuild although I have already bought the rebuilt kit for one. Worse, when I took the turbocharger out from the 95cse I could only find one good one. My garage is gradually losing space and I am not the most organized person in the world.
I have a t25 and a TD04. I could only find the TD04. So what makes my cse now? A cse Aero? If I find a matching ecu I may get more power. But 200 horses is plenty enough for me. Plus all I care is a functioning 9000 now. I've got better things to do.
Oh, the smoking exhaust is gone. Naturally.
My experience has been if the turbo charge has no play on the shaft it is usually good. That criteria hasn't failed me yet. But the removed turbo charge is baaaaaaad. I mean really bad. It has almost 1/4" play. The shaft has so much play some impeller blades on the air side were chipped away because the play caused them to rub against the wall.
But during replacement I found more things to fix. The passenger side CV joint has been leaking grease for some time plus I may need a new exhaust soon. I found a hole in front of the rear muffler. The existing exhaust doesn't have the resonator, or center muffler. The rear muffler also look cheap and flimsy. I don't like it one bit. I know the center muffler can be done away. But I'd like to keep everything stock. I'll let my daughter drive for the summer with the old muffler but it will not last.
I have time today only for the turbo charger. I'll take care of the CV joint tomorrow by replacing the drive shaft. I have two spares in the garage.
