clutch slave & t/o problem

I'm trying to mount the dust cover and t/o bearing on the slave cylinder on my 94 Aero, and I can compress the dust cover far enough to start the bearing on, but can't quite get it to lock on. I tried tapping it on with a rubber mallet, but it didn't quite seat and shot off with the dust cover like a kids toy! I've tried several times and still can't get it to seat. Am I overlooking something to keep the bearing seated?
Thanks -Cal
