I got Jak to make me a 3" downpipe/cat/flex pipe for my 1996 Aero, and since I wasn't able to make it out to North Carolina for him to build the rest of it, I bought a JT 3" cat-back setup from Nick Taliaferro, which arrived Monday. The reason I went with Jak for the front half is that he was easily able to maintain the stock cat location for my later 9000 as well as add the second O2 bung. I also like his welding work. :)

Well, the 3" exhaust definitely makes the difference everyone said it would. I "swiss-cheesed" my airbox at the same time (with a new paper filter) and the engine has a powerful, free-revving nature to it now with more low-end as well as a deep-breathing high end. It compares well to my "gold standard" for a powerful and eager-to-rev engine, the VQ35 3.5 V6 in the Infinity G35 (and a bazillion other Infiniti/Nissan products). I can't keep my foot out of it. There's a basso profundo throatiness to it at idle too, that rises in pitch to a four-cylinder snarl. I like it :)

The tailpipe tip is definitely ghetto, though. It also sticks out a bit farther than I'd like. I'm going to have it removed and replaced with an IMCO IEM143SS, which is a short 3" inlet stainless oval tip that I think will suit the Saab better, and hopefully get that tucked up under the rear valance better.

This completes the work I've been doing to my car since Labor Day, including new Brembos and Axxis Ceramics all around, new tie rod ends and balljoints, new Powerflex control arm bushings, and general repairs to things like fog lights, hazard light relay, central locking, etc...

The exhaust made the biggest difference, just as all who went before me always said.

Thanks for all the advice on here, what a forum!
