Well, boyz...dealer (who I know and trust) says transmission is shot, maybe just went out on it's own, or the problems were linkage induced...anyway, here's my diemma now....and this is also posted over on the 9-5 board...any input would be much appreciated!
You guys will love this one...
I've driven SAABs for over 20 years...25K - 30K miles per year, all the way from a 99GL, through 900 turbos, 9000s, a '99 9-5 and now a 95 9000 CSE 5 speed with 127K... 5 speed transmission took a ****, dealer says $3000 - $4000 (SAAB re-built) depending on clutch, OR he'll trade for a '99 9-5 wagon auto that he's serviced for 2 years (so it will have fairly good service records)...$6500 to boot. This is a reputable small town dealer.
The 9000 is in really nice shape except for transmission, just got 125K full dealer service, so I'm not opposed to the repair, but want to explore this other option of trading "up" to a 4 year newer 9-5 wagon with similar miles. I'm going down to test drive the 9-5 wagon today...so #1...what should I look, feel, and listen for?
AND #2...I know any car over 100K is a bit of a gamble, maybe a little bit less with a SAAB, but which option would YOU choose?, repair 9000 tranny and pray, OR buy the 9-5 wagon and pray?
