The heating on my '96 9000 CSE 2.0 LPT is great except that it stops working after a while.

Start the car on a cold morning and the ACC kicks in and the demister and rear window start up and the fan starts to blow. As soon as the engine reaches working temperature the fan goes into overdrive and lots of hot air is available. As the cabin warms up the fan speed drops off and the demister and rear window cut back and eventually everything settles down as it should - then maybe in 5 mins or 15mins the warm air turns cold!

Doesn't matter if I put it in to Econ still get cold air. Increase the temp in auto and the fan picks up and there might be some warm air but it soon goes cold. Turn off the ACC for 10 mins and there might be some warm air when I turn it on but it goes cold again.

The engine temp does not show any change while this is happening (but then the temp gauge is not so responsive on this car as it is on my '88 9000i). The engine seems to be acting properly - no overheating, the engine cooling fan comes on occasionally.

Is it the ACC that is not functioning properly? Is there a problem in the heater matrix? Any ideas? Any advice where I should start looking?

Thanks

Ken

**Foot-note**
This is a post from another forum which hasnt gotten any replies. I have the exact same problem and his post is worded much more accuractly then I could have described it.

In addition to what he said, I experience the same thing in the summer when trying to cool the car with the airconditioning system. The ACC autocalibrate (top right, bottom left buttons) work independantly but pressing both at the same time does not start the self calibration.

I have a '98 9000 CSE.
