I find with the Ferodo DS2500 pads the rotors last for 2 or 3 sets of pads. This is actually quite a long time as the pads wear really well. I understand the faster rotor wear rates are because we can't have asbestos in the pads any more - is that right?
Like David Ingram and most reasonably well-adjusted souls I abjure drilled or, for that matter, slotted rotors (discs in Brit-speak) – they eat pads and are noisier, too. Save them for your Porsche with 18" wheels and red paint on the calipers. Saab discs are fine, I use Brembos but wouldn't be surprised if they made the Saab ones anyway.
Can't think there is any real need for ceramic pads but I haven't tried them as I am so happy with the Ferodos.
