I am replacing my turbo tranny with a NA one (because my original trans turned into mush). I dont think you can ever hammer out a good tapper pin, you ever remove a ball joint on a american car? they arnt as easy as others.. they hold like hell, you need to get a ball joint tool and crank the thing down at nearly one turn beyond the point where you seriously question whether what your doing is safe..
I have both transmissions out of the cars, i will try a solid whap with a punch... i used a flang tool (that is meant for brake lines) and it just bent the bolt, thus i took a sawz-all to both ends of the bolt to clean it up.. this is by FAR the most dificult part of replacing the dam transmission. i got fed up yesterday and started tearing the mush transmission apart, its out of a 1990 9000 turbo.. all the bolts are out of it, i have taken out 5th gear and all the clips i could see, the case separates about 3/4" everywhere but still holds on, HOW CAN I OPEN THE CASE? i have the instructions for the next newer model from the net, but obviously the thing is not the same...
also - has anyone done a 5th gear swap between NA and a Turbo tranny? theoretically i know it could work, if the the junk fits in the case, and everything is machined right.. I would like to keep my top-end speed.. and fuel efficiency..
