Good to see someone else keeping a "classic" 9kT on the road.
Most likely you'll be able to fix this inexpensively. There's a good chance that you just have a vacuum leak. These are the thin rubber hoses to go off the intake manifold to various points of the car. The tend to crack when they get cold which causes the car to suck in too much air at idle. Take a good hard look at these. One of them also goes to the "hooter valve" a black cannister in the intake hose. If you pop the hose off the T and suck on it, the hooter valve should hold air. If not replace it. Is your boost gauge working? If not, that can be another vacuum leak. If you damn sure it's not a vacuum leak, then it could well be your AMM. You can try spray cleaning it with can carb cleaner, but you'll likely need a rebuilt (about $150 I think). The other thind is the idle air control valve (AIC) which is the bronze thing on top of the itake manifold with a two big-ish hose and a wiring harness going to it. Try cleaning this out with some carb cleaner as well, which often helps in this case. They tend to go bad less often than the AMM or vac hoses and you can get a used on cheap.
A bad idle is a pain especially with an automatic, and can be hard to sort out, but isn't a major problem with the car and can be fixed with some trouble shooting. If you're not comfortable with this stuff a good Saab specialist should be able to figure this out very quickly. However, this is one of those cases a mechanic that isn't very familiar with Saabs likely won't be able to help.
Good luck,
Craig
