2nd gear pops out - loose mounts? (kinda long) Posted by Nixter [Email] (#680) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nixter) on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 22:12:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This just started yesterday - my '92 90000 pops out of second gear - it doesn't do it under load of acceleration or decel - just slips quietly out of gear while in 'float' mode. I've compensated by holding the gearshift back while in second, babying the throttle (darn!), and getting out of second as soon as possible (or bypassing altogether). Will engine /tranny mount slop cause only second gear to not fully engage? I found that line of thought from searching the board. I am hoping this is not the death knell of the transmission.
I notice quite a bit of slop in the drivetrain and replaced the dogbone recently. If the other mounts are bad (and I suspect they are) - is it a major production to replace (and clearly upgrade to poly at that point)?
I took a short in-car vid of the engine in first gear.. half throttle to 4000 rpm, then off, then back... etc. The link is below.
Thanks in advance
