Limp-home and TCS ETS control module 4300539

Our 1993 9000 cse automatic 240K miles is now in limp-home and 2 places have said I need a new control module. This is the first TCS problem, believe it or not. Symptoms are it goes into limp-home at start. I've looked at the signals at the ECU with a scope and I see the ECU turn itself off about three seconds after startup (I thin it turns off the main relay to itself - kind of clever). I've cleaned up all cable connectors and replaced the valve on the aquarium.
Both places said they can't communicate with it and it needs a new ETS module.
1. Has anyone done any debugging on these things? Can I make up an adapter to hook into the diagnostic K&L lines with a PC-based code reader and see if I see lines toggling to verify nothing is loading thelines down? I've checked connectivity from under the passenger seat to where the unit is under the driver seat.
2. Anyone have a model number 4300539 that they think works for sale? That's the final version that is supposed to be the best.
Thanks-
Peter
