I can't find any specific torque specs in my book for that bolt but I guess you can use standard torque for a M12 bolt.
It is an 8.8 strength bolt so it is pretty good quality.
Maybe the last tech working on the car didn't think about the left hand thread and over torqued it and made it weak when removing.
Since we don't know about the first failure, it's hard to say if it is a trend or not since they can fail in many different ways.
