A good starting-point is Quasi's excellent site whtih has articles on just about everything you need. Link below.
There isn't a 2.1, four-cylinder 9000s in the US almost all 2.3 in various flavours (more 2.0s in Europe partly because of tax laws in some countries). But most people try to avoid the 3.0 V6, which has various issues.
Unless you particularly like the early cars the best idea IMHO is to buy a late car (1996-98, say) because (a) they'd got most things right and (b) even these are ten years old.
Lots of people would like a late-model manual Aero so you might not find one. Manual Aeros have 225 bhp, automatic Aeros 200 bhp.
A nice buy is a 1997 "Anniversary" model which has the Aero body kit and in many cases Aero wheels and suspension as well (you need to check this with any individual car, however). Look at my photo gallery if you like. Or the '98 manuals came with the 225bhp Aero-spec engine, though not the body parts - very tasty.
The lpt (light pressure turbo) cars typically offer 175 bhp rather than 200 for the full turbo CSE. Very nice as standard, and can easily be upgraded if required with a boost pressure control valve and a replacement ECU.
