winter 2006, i was in florida and my '90 9000 that i kept in massachusetts developed a failed slave cylinder... i had a fairly new used slave cylinder that i had taken out of my 92 9000 when the trans locked up and I asked the local saab indy there if he'd be willing to put it in for me (since it was winter and i was 1500 miles away)... my recollection is he quoted me $500 labor to replace the slave cylinder and t/o bearing with my parts, and then resurface the flywheel. unfortunately, once he got the car in there, he realized my brake lines were just about rotted thru and with 210K on the clock and given i only drove it a few times a year, i gave up on it, but the price at his labor rate I think worked out to about 7 hours... maybe 6-8 is a more reasonable estimate than 4-6, I can't remember now, I just remember the last time I took the tranny out in my driveway it came out fast cause i'd done it so many times. But even 8 hours makes $850 unreasonable unless you're getting charged $100 per hour, in which case, have your doctor do it and let your insurance cover it.
