as I see it is that we all want our 9000s to last for mega miles at micro cost, and sadly they are just old cars with the potential to go wrong. Originally being expensive old cars means repairs are not always cheap (though this site is invaluable, and the parts supply is pretty good). The question is always "is it worth it?".

I'm on my third 9k and I had to have the auto transmissions in both of the first two rebuilt. I did this without a second thought in both cases, because I liked the cars. My current Anniversary has 112k miles and I know the transmision might break but this is undoubtedly the best 9k I've owned and if it does, I'll have it fixed just like the others.

The auto tranmission is much nicer and more controllable than many others I've driven - particularly electronic ones, which seem to want to do the thinking for me, with indifferent results. There are indeed many faults that can be fixed by taking the lid off. But sometimes they just break and you are going to need a tow and a rebuild.

Fuel consumption does take a hit, particularly in town, but they are fine on the open road and as a frequent driver in London, I would never go back to a manual anyway.
