There's a number of people that have simply eliminated it. The coolant is there to keep the keep the breather pipe warm and prevent sludging. You can simply remove the entire pipe and cap it in each place where it connects (intake, small coolant pipe by intake, coolant pipe under manifold, throttle body connections). Run the breather hose from the PCV nipple to a catch can. Mine tore while I was replacing my thermostat, so I decided to just remove the system.
I picked up a variety pack of bypass caps at Autozone, it maybe cost me $5. I still need to pick up a catch can. The car seems to idle a bit smoother now, which has also been reported by others. No affect on cold starts, and it's been very near 0 deg F in the mornings recently.
