I went a pulled everything apart today to recheck things.
I hooked the engine directly to the line that goes to the tank's two way valve. No canister, no ELCD valve. (it's the only vacuum pump I could find) There was nice strong vacuum at the line that connects to the two way valve. I then cracked the gas cap and hooked the line up to the two way valve, the engine stumbled a little and I could hear noises from the tank. I sealed the gas cap, waited a couple seconds, and shut off the engine. Then I counted to 6 and opened the gas cap. I heard a woosh of air entering the tank. So, it does hold vacuum.
Just like my previous tests, I blew though the line that goes from the canister to the 2 way valve. I tried a little harder this time. With a mouth full of air and using my mouth to maintain as much pressure as I could, I was able to do it for about 20 seconds. That could also be my problem. Or it could be blow by with the two way valve. Is that "good enough". How in the world would I replace this line if I had to.
Yet, when I hook the ELCD valve and canister up in the system, vacuum at the 2 way valve is almost nothing. I may barely feel some little vacuum, maybe. There is definitely a slight vacuum at the vent on the bottom of the canister. And there is the same "maybe" vacuum at the nipple that the line from the gas tank connects to on the charcoal canister. Both my brand new and old used stock canister behaved the same.
Perhaps this is my problem?
I had hoped that my two way valve was clogged on the tank side, and when I connected engine vacuum up to the valve it sucked it clean, hence the stumbling. So I unplugged the computer for about 15 minutes, plugged it in , and waited for CEL, Same damn one.
My previous test where I sucked on the line coming from the tank's two way valve was not only inconclusive because I can't draw a vacuum in the tank with my mouth, but also because I didn't breath in with my lungs. Gas fumes :X.
