>94 5-speed transmission hang/balance point? Posted by Porschephile951 [Email] (#2169) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Porschephile951) on Sun, 22 Jun 2008 15:33:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been sailing through a transmission removal/reinstall prompted by an obliterated release bearing (a story for another thread) up to the point of realigning/mating the trans with the motor. I've spent about four hours on just this problem, which is the total time it required from start to this point.
I notice there is no hook point installed from the factory, apparently a >1994 model exercise in cost cutting. Where is it in this case, so I can fab up something?
I performed the entire removal with just a rolling floor jack and some 2x4s, and I expected I would be able to reinstall with just some extended bolts for alignment ... the tolerance is not tight enough unfortunately; I don't want to assume the input shaft is aligned with the friction disc just to crank down and warp the hell out of the disc or damage the splines.
So I've arranged some thick boards across the strut towers and obtained some ratchet straps, but before I remove the extended bell housing draw bolts to get it properly aligned I want to have it at the balance point ... using a floor jack to position a trans isn't something you want to experience more than once a year.
