Not completely--the oil pan cracked. The rubber gasket for the intermediate driveshaft cover did not seat properly, acting as a sort of shim. As I tightened down the lower bell-housing bolt I heard a crack followed by a stream of oil. I assumed at first that I had used an incorrect bolt that was too long and had penetrated into the transmission. As the car is a fairly beat, high-mileage example and I don't want to spend more time on it, I sawed through and shortened the cover tube.
Though I've never cheaped out to the point of using J-B Weld to repair anything, it appears it might be the quick fix I need as the crack is more superficial than anything.
I've never had so much difficulty with a clutch replacement. C'est la vie I suppose.
