Stopped by ABT Electronic in Glenview IL(VERY high end electronic store), to look at DVD player for my wifes new van and strolled over to the car radios. Told the salesman I would love to replace the stock H/K system in my '97 9000CSE but everyone says it a huge job because of the OEM amp and individually wired speakers. Installer went out to my car and said no problem, he can do it in an hour using my amp. The stereo was $174 and the install was $150 including two wiring harness and the cubbie where the oringinal CD player was to plug in and store my iPod. Still not believing I said go ahead but let me know if you run into problems. Went back in one hour and DONE! The sounds is so amazing with the stock speakers I would have done this years ago had I known. Everything works perfect; Balance, Fader, everything. Complete night and day difference. The rear speakers just came alive and now the antennae only goes up when I select "tuner" instead of always when the stereo was on. The iPod connection is the high-speed direct connect and it charges instead of the common earphone jack. Even the installer said he was impressed with the sound of the SAAB amp/speakers and thought there was a sub in a back panel somewhere. I do wish it was the original Alpine green but I can select blue or red illumination. I'm gitty like a kid because I was tired of the known issues of the factory CD player reading CD-R'a and using the iTrip FM converter for my iPod.
