This is one I pay to have done. I have most of the tools and know I could do it, but there's the available time issue and my knowledge that things rarely go according to plan. Plus, whenever I need to do it it's invariably winter and 28 degrees out and I don't have a usable garage (too much junk). If I could use it, it would be all the way up to 29 degrees. Sigh.
FWIW, my indy used to buy reman axles but had to warranty too many of them. Now he pulls the axle, does the work on a bench and puts it all back together. Forget what he charges, but one at a time, it's semi-tolerable and I spend time doing something else on the beast or on the house that I don't want to pay someone to do. If I had the time and a heated garage it would be a different story.
