Here's what I did in the same situation: order a new axle *and* a boot kit. Remove bad axle from car, install replacement axle.
Now the car's drivable, and at your leisure you can replace the boot on the old axle, and you'll then have a spare axle to install when the boot on the other side goes. The L & R axles are identical, and when one boot fails, the other one's usually not far behind.
