First of all, thanks for the write-up. My previous 95 CDE had this issue occasionally before I traded it in, and my dad's current 96 CSE has locks that never work. This is one of the next things we want to tackle. Just re-soldered the headlight relays to regain the use of high beams (definately cracked solder joints - my 9-5 also had the same problem about 6 months ago). We also just replaced all the light bulbs in the radio/CD player and ACC panel/seat heater switches.
Anyways - the "push-pin" connectors are very simple to remove. You don't pull out the pin to release it, you actually push it in farther. It only needs to go in about 1/8".
If you still have the black-handled screwdriver with the replaceable double ended Torx/flat blade bits that came with the car, look at the back of the handle and you'll see a circular bump that is about 1/8" tall. Guess what this is for! Yup - you use the back of the handle to push in the pin the proper amount (the surrounding handle keeps you from launching the pin all the way out the inside to be lost deep down inside the dash).
Once it's out, you can then reset the pin and reinstall the connector when you're ready.
