I completely agree, I think LED's are definitely the way to go. Most European manufacturers use mostly LED's in their light applications (think BMW, Mercedes, Audi) nowadays, which is definitely a smart play. It's just that converting our 15 year old cars over to LED's today isn't exactly plug and play.
Basically, my only beef with the problem is that I'd have to buy a new relay and a load resistor to wire into the circuit. I'd rather not mess with Saab OEM wiring, as finicky as it can be. The pictogram is bothersome yes, but LED's won't trip it if you install the LED relay and the resistor alongside the LED itself.
They definitely do blink faster, which is a great aspect for safety, but in reality there is only about 1/5 second difference (which may be a lot to some people) to ignite the bulb.
So I guess it comes down to if one wants to install that LED flasher relay and a load resistor, hard wired into the car. I personally don't, so I'm sticking with filament bulbs on the signals, brake lights, etc. The little ones like inside the cabin (dome light, reading lights, map light, airplane light, courtesy lights, trunk light), the license plate, or even the daytime running lights (bulb 168/194)inside the high beam section of the headlights can all be easily replaced with LED's. How do I know? Cause I've already done it, and they look spectacular. Much brighter too, and will probably never burn out, at least in the car's lifetime.
