I started with the JT downpipe, but it is just awful in design and is very restrictive to flow. It's also only 2 1/4" diameter at the turbo and for most of the pipe, but opens up to 3" in the last few inches (they claim 3", yeah right). In Los Angeles, Walter Wong (anyone know the Saab God I speak of???) directed me towards a custom exhaust shop, just down the street from him on Venice Blvd (I went to Pepperdine University for 2 years and just transferred to the University of Iowa, I am originally from Chicago and I'm 21 yrs old).
It's called AAA Exhaust, and there I saw some of the most incredible exhaust craftsmanship and ingenuity. Pepe, the owner, knows just as much about exhaust work as Walter does about Saabs. They regularly re-work celebrity's cars, as well as just your average Joe. When my '95 9000 Aero was at Pepe's shop, there was a brand new Ferrari getting a Tubi re-work in the bay next to me, as well as an Escalade and a Range Rover down in the other bays. Pepe's shop is also one of the last shops to have an "in-ground" service bay, where you drive the car onto I-beams and climb down into a pit and work underneath (old, but very cool).
Anyway, Pepe constructs custom made 3" 9000 DP's for Walter all the time, and I was unsatisfied with the JT DP, so I went to Pepe's, he had a few made up already, and he installed it without a problem in about 30 mins. Beautiful custom Tig-welded stainless 405 pipe all mandrel bent, a TRUE 3" diameter all the way through. After installation, I drove a very different car.
Pepe charged me $280 for the whole job, DP included. He makes them from time to time, depending on demand from Walter's shop (Walter has quite a few performance-oriented customers, surprisingly, since Walter's all about maintaining stock conditions). Before I left LA and made the 30 hour drive to Chicago, I actually talked to Pepe about selling his DP's to other Saab customers outside of LA. I told him I'd give his number to anyone who was interested and he'd be happy to ship them out per requested, at about $250 apiece.
I don't mean to intrude upon your sales Barry, I think what you're doing is terrific for the performance community. More sellers = more competition = more competitive pricing for the buyer. But if anyone IS interested then just shoot me an email through this posting link. Just my two cents (or two dollars by now).
Happy Saabing everyone.
