Stage 3 setup allows the engine to reach 260 hp. This is for a BSR re-mapped ECU. Other re-mapping software for Stage 3 might be higher or lower. It really makes no difference what type of tranny the car has. The 5-spd has its share of weaknesses as well.
I've always made sure not to do any jack-rabbit starts, and not mashing down the gas pedal until the tranny's out of 1st. I've also hardly ever used the kickdown feature, and would rather shift the car manually into 3rd then apply the power to it. I felt this resulted in less pressure from not having to jolt the tranny from dropping to 3rd from 4th after having the pedal down all the way. Definitely make sure to do those fluid changes regularly, to ensure the protective qualities of it are always at their best.
The tranny was replaced under warranty from the dealer when I purchased the car at 50K miles. That's why the tranny now has 90K+ miles on it. Only thing I've ever needed to replace in it were the governor seals, which is very typical in these tranny's.
