I pulled the cap from where the distributor would go and the watched the cam turn around as the engine cranked. I also watched the pistons run up and down in the cylinders, so the timing chain seems to be connected. I pulled the plugs and could smell fuel on them. Even though the DI Cassette was disconnected, I could hear the relay cut out after about 5 seconds, but I could not verify it was working although the last few attempts with all things in place I could hear a pop when the DI did it's burn off.
Now for the Compression readings. I had my wife (a factory trained Honda mechanic) crank it over, 4 compression strokes on each cylinder:
#1 25-50-75-80
#2 50-80-125-140
#3 35!
#4 50-80-120-130
SAAB doesn't publish compression ratings, but 1 and 3 are certainly not good. Considering the readings, what should I look to now? I'll do another compression test to verify that I didn't screw up on the previous one, but I was using a SnapOn tester, not a cheap push-on gauge. Also, when the DIC was fully operational, I could hear a POP when the burn off phase came on, so I think both the DIC and Fuel supply are good.
#3 at 35 psi??? What could be up with that???
Thanks for any help. -Cal
