A broom helps Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 07:36:52 In Reply to: It's A Stupid Question..But..How to Change Hatch Struts, Mister Pig, Tue, 14 Apr 2009 16:51:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Open the hatch, and prop it open with a broom handle. On the little ball and socket joint there is a sheet metal clip (see what tz said). Gently pry it off with a needle nose pliers. I also needed a little pry help from a screwdriver. Yes, it is quite tight in there, but there is no need to remove trim pieces. Do one strut at a time. Once the clip is off, you may need to lift the hatch just a little to get the ball-socket apart. I've even had to use a little persuasion with a screwdriver to separate them.
With just one hatch strut, the hatch will come down, so make sure you've got that prop in place.
With a little wrasslin', it's about a 10 minute job. Just have a needle nose pliers and a couple of flat blade screwdrivers handy. And a broom handle. Having an assistant to hold the broom handle is nice, but I've juggled them all by myself.
