I don't have a whole lot of experience with Trionic, but on the older cars with AMMs, they do not use the O2 sensor until warmed up. I believe 96-98 actually have two O2 sensors. If one is "cold" and one "hot" and the behavior doesn't change with the temp of the car, maybe check your temp sensor resistance to rule that out. My 91 was throwing a temp sensor code though, so I'd imagine with OBD2 you'd definitely have one as well if that was bad.
