Steering Wheel Removal-can anyone venture why I cannot

pull the wheel when I've disassembled all apparent access to it? I've removed airbag after requisite 20 min. delay from battery negative lead disconnect, removed retaining nut & washer leaving only the wheel attached to the steering column splines. It should just pull out according to my Haynes, but it only goes to '95 and mine is a '97. I've researched past posts and cannot find any difference from the later models. Could it be just frozen to the shaft and I need some kind of puller? Yanking really hard it doesn't budge, but I can't see any other way it is being held to the column. I'm trying to replace the column bearing and inner & outer rubber bushings to eliminate the up & down & sideways play in the column.......thanks in advance
