Indeed, VAG-COM does interface with standard OBD-II...

I have it too for my Audis and it's paid for itself several times over. I used it to pull codes on a Jeep a few times and it worked just fine. If you can get something to work with OBD-II talking to pre-OBD-II Saabs, that would be seriously cool!
