For in-depth scanning capabilities, only the Saab proprietary scanners will work. The earlier version is called an ISAT and will do everything your car allows. These are very hard to find but you might get extremely lucky and find one on Ebay someday. Expect to pay several hundred I would think. But again, almost never seen.
The later tool is a GM scanning tool called a Tech II. These are readily available but very expensive, as Swedecar notes. They must include the proper Saab diagnostic card and connector, which cost extra.
For 1996 and later cars, you can use any OBDII scanner, but this will ONLY give you industry generic codes relating to standard emissions diagnostics. They will NOT give you the full menu of scanning/clearing/modifying options possible ONLY with an ISAT or Tech II.
Unfortunately, a 1992 can ONLY be scanned with an ISAT or Tech II. There are no other options available to you. A VAG.COM scanner won't work on a Saab (except maybe to read OBDII codes).
Perhaps you can locate a Saab mechanic in your area that has an ISAT or Tech II.
