It is possible to remove the oil pan without taking the engine out. It is different from the way you do it in a 9-5 (I've done it in both my 9000 and 9-5), but that is mainly because of the difference in the engine mounting system.
The steps are:
1. Jack up the right side of the car and put it on a jack stand.
2. Remove the right wheel and take out the fender liner.
3. Remove the O2 sensor from the exhaust header.
4. Detach the header from the turbocharger and support it with a jack.
5. Remove any attachments from the exhaust header and remove the front hangers.
6. Drop the exhaust pipe to the ground. (The idea here is to not put any stress on the flex pipe.)
7. Remove the flywheel cover plate on the side of the transmission.
8. Remove the dog bone top mount.
9. Remove the top bolts on the front and rear right side mounts.
10. Put a wood block on top of your jack and lift the transmission as much as you can with out breaking anything! That turns out to be 2 inches. If you have engine hoist or an engine support beam, that works even better than the jack.
11. Remove all the bolts from the oil pan. You may have to get at the bolts on the crank pulley end by coming in from the side.
12. Pull down on the pan from the transmission side first and take the pan out on an angle to clear the subframe on pulley side of the engine.
If the pan does not separate, first make sure you have removed all of the bolts, and then rap the pan with a plastic faced hammer until it breaks loose.
I did this 7 years ago, so I could have left out a step, but it can be done, and I think once you start you will be able to figure it out.
