While engine is running, disconnect the electrical connector to an injector and rev engine slightly, listening for knocking noise. If noise persist, reconnect connector and disconnect another injector connector and repeat the rev test (listenening for knocking noise). If the noise disappears or subsides when one of the connectors is disconnected, then you have a problem in the corresponding cylinder (most likely the connecting rod bearing on the crankshaft, not the rod). This method works because the piston is no longer being pushed down by combustion and that's why the noise subsides. If you're lucky and catch it in time, you may be able to just drop the oil pan and change out the bearings (after inspecting the rod ends and crankshaft) If the noise remains after you have tested each one, then your problem is elsewhere.
