The Safety Valve on the firewall is directly tied to the function of the car in/out of LHM. It is a fairly frequent cause of the car going into LHM if it goes bad-especially when hot. The one on the fender is for the cruise control but that valve can be tried in a pinch to replace the other.
The reason vacuum lines are so important, is that the throttle body has to have full vacuum to even function. Lower vacuum levels, better chance for less than full functionality.
