Who's replaced their own headliner, and how did it turn out?
I just finished doing mine, and, if I say so myself, it turned out looking pretty great. I did the A and C pillars as well, and I was quite pleased with my results. Here's the problem: Rear raised section is already sagging again.
I used 3M Super 77 (if my memory serves... I'm at work right now) spray adhesive, and followed the directions closely. It stuck for a couple of days, and it is now sagging. Running your hand across the sagging area sticks it back to the ceiling, but it will eventually come off again. Even flat areas are not remaining attached. Granted it's been very hot lately, so that might be working against me, but I'm bummed.
I used Liberty branded automotive headliner material ordered from the local upholstery shop (Titanium is the color name, and it's just about a perfect match). I prepped the headliner board with a putty knife and then finished with a wire brush. I stuck the fabric to the board and let it set over night, then the day after it got put back in, SAG!
How should I do it differently when I do it again? (It still looks much better than before, so I might not be in a huge hurry to do it again, but I seek your advice for when the time comes.)
Thanks for all the help,
~peter
